Art from homes in Central Finland on display at the Jyväskylä Art Museum
The Jyväskylä Art Museum is seeking artworks from private homes for the “Art from Homes” exhibition. Anyone residing in Central Finland can offer one artwork they own by filling the open call form. The exhibition will be held at the Jyväskylä Art Museum from January 31st to April 20th, 2025.
Open call for the exhibition has ended.
An exhibition of artworks and stories behind them
Approximately 60 artworks will be included. In addition to the artwork, a short text is requested explaining why the particular artwork holds special significance to its owner. The stories behind the artworks will also be featured in the exhibition.
There are no pre-set restrictions on the size or technique of the artwork. Owners are expected to arrange transportation of their work to the museum, but if necessary, the art museum will handle transportation for larger artworks.
The final selection of artworks will be made by a regional audience panel. The exhibition will feature a diverse collection of various artworks and stories. To submit their artwork for consideration, owners can fill out the application form below.
Background of the exhibition project
The exhibition initiative originated from a proposal by a 36-year-old individual from Central Finland, suggesting an exhibition featuring artworks from ordinary people’s homes. The suggestion was made to Laura Suhonen in her master’s thesis at the University of Jyväskylä, where she examined the attitudes of people living in Central Finland towards Finnish art museums and the Jyväskylä Art Museum. The aim of the “Art from Homes” project is to increase participation, well-being, and equal accessibility to art and culture for the residents of Central Finland.
